Industry || News ABB Launched Three New Robot Series To Strengthen Its Leading Position in China

Building on more than 30 years of leadership in China's robotics industry, ABB has expanded its product portfolio with three new robot series to support the transformation and development of China's advanced manufacturing industry.

ABB has launched three new robot series

Produced at ABB Robotics' Shanghai Gigafactory, the new robot series addresses the multi-dimensional automation needs of high-growth sectors such as electronics, consumer goods and general industry, from basic material handling to precision applications such as gluing and polishing. All series are powered by ABB Robotics' OmniCore™ single-controller platform, which will enable the full integration of AI, sensors, cloud computing and edge computing systems to create advanced and autonomous robotics applications. This strategic expansion comes at a time of rapid growth in China's mid-range robotics market (CAGR: 24% 2021-2024). Looking ahead, the market growth is expected to stabilize gradually, growing at around 8% by 2028.

ABB's new range of robots

• Lite+

Designed for basic material handling and pick-and-place operations, Lite+ is compact and easy to use, lowering the barrier to entry for automation applications for small businesses. Currently targeting the Chinese and Asian markets, the series can be seamlessly integrated with the new IRB 1200 and other IRB series robots, providing a flexible end-to-end production solution for industries such as electronics manufacturing.

• PoWa

PoWa is a compact cobot built for speed, collaboration, and efficiency. With industrial speeds of up to 5.8 m/s, they are ideal for fast pick-and-place, palletizing and machine loading. PoWa is currently mainly aimed at the Chinese market, which can realize no-code programming, and make peripherals plug-and-play, and it only takes 60 minutes from unboxing to normal operation, which is very attractive to small and medium-sized enterprises.

• IRB 1200 (new generation).

The newly designed IRB 1200 small industrial robot is optimized for high-speed, high-precision applications such as assembly, polishing, gluing, etc., for the global market. The new IRB 1200 is around 20 percent lighter and more compact than the previous generation, enabling manufacturers to complement more space-saving production cells to increase throughput and operational efficiency.

New AI-driven innovations, continuing our technology leadership in China

All three robot families are powered by the OmniCore™ controller platform, ensuring seamless integration and access to ABB's industry-leading software suite, including RobotStudio.
